HBO Admission Test 21+

Would you like to follow a course at a college for applied science (HBO) but don’t quite meet the requirements for Dutch higher education? By doing the 21+ Admission Test you will take an entrance examination and receive advice on your abilities to follow the study program you have chosen. An HBO entrance examination in English is made possible for international students or students who choose an English-spoken study program.

FOR WHOM? This entrance examination is intended for prospective students who want to follow an HBO program, but who do not have a Dutch secondary education diploma (HAVO, VWO or MBO level 4) and are 21 years old at the start of the examination. You can use the advice you receive after completing the 21+ Admission Test when registering for a HBO study program. HAVO-VWO students that followed an incorrect or incomplete program in Dutch secondary education, and therefore don’t meet the qualification for their preferred study program, can also register. The English-spoken HBO study program is intended for international students who are going to study in the Netherlands, or other students who choose an English study program. We expressly point out that we only provide independent advice based on the preferred study program. The final decision on admission is always taken by the college for applied science itself. Please inquire in advance on admission with your preferred college and whether the study program you’d like to follow has other specific requirements. Keep in mind that certain programs of a higher professional education need the results of your 21+ Admission Test before a certain date (because of decentralized selection and / or numerus fixus). This date is stated in the study program’s information letter.
